310 yards, and it is the shortest par 4 you will ever take three shots to get down. The hole runs along a shelf of ground barely wider than the fairway, with steep rainforest climbing away on the left and a shoreline of dark tumbled boulders on the right, and it finishes on a low headland with the sea round three sides of the green and one bunker across the front. Across the bay two enormous domes of bare granite come straight out of the water, and they are the reason nobody looks where they are aiming. Standing on the tee the number does all the talking. Three hundred and ten, downwind, and you have a driver in your hands before you have thought about it. What the number does not tell you is that the fairway is at its widest about two hundred yards out and narrows the whole way from there, so the further you hit it the less short grass there is to land on, and the miss on the right is not rough, it is rocks and then the sea. The question on a drivable hole is never whether you can get there. It is where the hole is narrowest, and whether you are landing in the wide part or the thin part. Hit the club that leaves you a full wedge from the broadest ground you can find, and let everyone else go looking down by the water.
