Dalmilling Golf Club

First opened in 1961, Dalmilling is set between Ayr’s famous Racecourse and the A77, this is, as they say, honest and open parkland where the first hole plays away from the clubhouse and dips into a rolling valley. The River Ayr borders the southern end of the course, with some of its tributary burns adding interest to the early holes,the 5th being teed up adjacent to the river where any hooked or pulled shots are fishfood, then the signature hole the 6th, a 135 yard par three that is virtually surrounded by water, followed by the sharp left hand dogleg 7th, this hole has wrecked many a good card and good players hearts too, the back 9 has some very nice holes too, the 10th is a take on for the big hitters whilst the 11th can be tricky with the pond awaiting any stray shots from the tee,, the 14th par 5 can be a long long hole on a windy day where position is key, the 15th par 3 is a tricky hole on any day with its sloping green guarded by a bunker to the left and back, the 16th is a short par 4 where again the big hitters will fancy their chances although the green is surrounded by 4 bunkers so the tee shot must and the approach need hitting well, the 17th can be the hardest hole on the course depending on which way the wind is blowing also there is OB to the left and rough to the right, then the 18th where again position from the tee is vital if a par is on the cards.
