The green sits out on limestone pavement at the very edge of the Atlantic, with the cliffs falling away behind it and the swell breaking white on the rocks a long way below. Running straight through the middle of the putting surface is a natural crack in the bedrock, about a foot wide and deep enough that nothing is coming back out of it, and the flag stands on the far side. So the shot itself is a wedge and the putt might not be possible. Finish on the wrong half of the green and there are two options, neither of them good: putt the long way round the end of the fissure and leave yourself fifteen feet coming back, or take a wedge out onto the putting surface and chip across it. There is no third option, and no amount of reading the green helps, because the problem is not the break. Which means the only shot that matters here is the one you have already hit. Take enough club to finish on the same side as the pin, and genuinely prefer the bunker short right to being on the correct green in one and unable to reach the hole from it.
