The short answer
Update Golf Handicapp to the latest version. It is the fastest way to get guests, groups, card markers and shareable leaderboards, and older versions cannot join events that use the new tools.
We have shipped a run of new features over the last few updates. To make sure you have them, and that you can join everything your friends are running, it is worth a quick check that you are on the latest version.
What updating gives you
The newest version brings guest players with no account needed, playing groups, a card marker so one person can score the whole group, six digit join codes, and a live leaderboard you can share to any screen. There is more on all of that in our latest post.
Why it matters for events
Playing a normal round and keeping your handicap up to date works on any version, so there is never any rush there. The newer event tools are the part that needs the latest app: to host or join an event that uses guests, groups or card markers, everyone needs to be on the current version. If a friend sets one up and you are on an older build, updating is all it takes to get in.

Open the App Store or Google Play, search for Golf Handicapp, and tap Update. Or use the buttons below.
